WHY NATIVE?
Like the Monarch butterfly needs milkweed plants to support its caterpillars, many of our native pollinating insects have coevolved, specialized relationships with our native plants. They need these plants in order to survive.
Did you know a clutch of baby birds are fed between 6,000-9,000 caterpillars before the learn to fly? Most caterpillars need specific plants to survive to become butterflies, moths, or essential baby bird food.
Plants native to your area are adapted to grow in your conditions. That means you do not need to alter your soil to grow them. Please don't fertilize your native plants, they don't like that! Leave your leaves or maybe add a touch of compost. No chemicals needed.
