This is one of my favorite plants! Not only does it hold its evergreen basal rosette, complete with that beautiful red-streaked foilage that gives this plant its name, but it also has the most charming cottage garden style blooms held aloft nice tall stems. Best of all, you get to watch the bees wiggling their way into the blooms. Also attracts hummingbirds!

'Huskers Red' Penstemon prefers well-drained soil in full sun and is drought tolerant once established. It is also deer-resistant: My deer munch the foilage in winter when there is nothing else available. By spring, my local deer have moved on to more favorable plants and left it alone. This is a durable and gorgeous plant for all seasons.
