Carex apppalachica is a fine-textured, clump growing sedge growing in dry to mesic forests in part shade especially in hot areas. When planted in masses it has a tufted or swirling effect. Grows to about 6 inches tall in weeping form with 12-18" long leaves. Can be used as a lawn substitute but will not tolerate foot traffic.

Seeds feed birds and turtles. Effective erosion control. Host plant to the Skipper and Satyr caterpillars.  Possibly black walnut tolerant. Deer Resistant

Makes a great alternative to Liriope.
