Also known as Indian Pink, this lovely plant is a charming choice for the partly shaded garden. Blooming in May-July in NC, Indian pink has in interesting red tubular flower with a yellow throat, much loved by hummingbirds. It is a well behaved plant that will improve in size each year.

'Little Redhead' is a more compact version of the straight species, about 20" tall at maturity.

While I have read reports that it can endure more sun with enough (well-drained) moisture, this is not a location I have personally tried yet. I'd love to hear feedback if you have!

My deer do not bother my Spigelia! It is drought resistant once established.
